Culinary Arts ?

Culinary Arts

After I graduated from college I was living in a very large house with a bunch of roommates. Our landlord said that he loved to rent to college students, which I thought was totally insane. Though there are many students that are responsible, there are more that are not. This house had eight bedrooms, and when you had enough roommates in there, the rent and the bills were very affordable. When we started losing people my landlord advertised at a few colleges to find new roommates. When we finally got filled back up again we have a few students from the culinary arts school that was affiliated with the school I had gone to.

The culinary arts school was something that we heard a lot about at our school because they were in the process of buying them out when I was graduating. Everyone was very excited, but it really didn’t make much difference to me. The schools were similar in set up, though they did not offer the same learning material. My school was about art, photography, and other artist business pursuits. The culinary arts school offered, as you may have guessed, cooking, baking, and the business side of restaurants.

I soon found out that there was a huge plus to living with students from the culinary arts school. They had a lot of cooking to do, and many times they had to do it at home. There were many times when they had to cook a meal and get opinions, and we were always the guinea pigs. I don’t know much about culinary arts, but I do know what good food tastes like. Our three roommates all did amazing jobs in the kitchen, and it also helped cut down on my grocery bill.

Despite the good food, there was something a little off about the culinary arts students we lived with. Perhaps it was being around food so much, I don’t know, but they all became a little wacky. They were completely normal when they moved in, but somewhere along the line they all wigged out a bit. Perhaps the world of culinary arts is a little more cut throat than I thought it was. What was even worse was that they carried around a large array of very sharp and very large knives. I know they wouldn’t have done anything, but you never know what someone is thinking. Moving out a few months later was a huge relief.

Have You Reached Your Full Potential

arts No Comments »

Each of us possesses an untapped potential within. We are all destined to be someone and achieve something in the course of our lives. However, due to the multitude of challenges and obstacles that we encounter everyday, we neglect that we have this capacity to achieve our goals, and be the best person we can become. The fire of potential is not kindled but instead seized. What most people fail to understand is that it is only in accepting and utilizing this potential that we will fully realize its amazing and powerful impact in improving our lives.

In the course of our pursuit to reaching our full potential, several obstacles may get in the way. Often, these hindrances are not material. Instead, they are nothing more than self-limiting beliefs that stop as from getting to where we want to be or being what we are meant to become. It is fear, anguish and worry that tops the list in hampering people from finding the positive that life has to offer.

Foremost, this is brought about by fear. In psychology, “fear of failure” or “fear of success” are terms often used to explain why people hold themselves back. “Fear of failure” is what it literally suggests. Nobody wants to fail utterly. It is difficult to accept defeat. On the other hand, “fear of success” is not as easy to analyze. Success is not universally a positive thing. It changes one’s life in one way or another. Fear of success somehow translates to the fear of what may come with success. Achieving success for some people may lead to one’s losing a sense of purpose. Since the goal he was aiming at has already been attained, he finds no more purpose in pursuing any more goals. Also take for example, someone who aspires to make a breakthrough in science may just be able to achieve his goal, but succeeding may cause that person to be in the limelight - giving speeches at conferences, facing both praises and criticisms, and even incurring the envy of his colleagues. Because of this fear of being exposed and succumbing to a public life, people may just be content with being themselves and blend with the crowd. They no longer seek for more by furthering or enhancing their chosen craft. Somewhere along the way, progress stops and the full potential within waiting to be freed is curtailed.

Though imagining success maybe able to bring out your desire to reach for your full potential, it is rather important to aim for development and not really focus on victory. To fail is inevitable, while success may be short-lived, but the lessons and learning you will derive from it will definitely allow you to understand and appreciate yourself more. It will aid you in knowing your limits and/or how much further you are able to push yourself.

Psychologists encourage people who are seeking to reach their full potential to not focus on the material aspects of achieving something. Instead, they must aim more for personal development, which comes with a longer-lasting effect than tangible rewards. Looking towards personal fulfillment gives the much-needed inspiration to discover how far you can go.

It is a must to set your targets high, but be sure to keep your expectations level with reality as well. Do not satisfy yourself with the way things are. Crave to discover your capabilities. Challenge yourself

How to Evaluate Kids’ Television Shows?

arts No Comments »

Because of the warning that some television shows have more negative than positive affects on children, being the caring adults, many people have blocked inappropriate movies on television to protect the children from uncensored stimuli from the media. They did not ban television privileges altogether because they fear that preventing children from watching kids show means hampering their cognitive development.

There are many educational programs and movies out there that kids can not do without. In today worlds, most parents spend more time at work than at homes. At home they are busy with nourishing and pampering and rarely have enough time to participate in their kids’ activities. To make up for the lost time with their children, they award youngsters with dvd movies, hoping that the movies would entertain as well as teach kids meaningful lessons. They like to let kids watch shows that can enhance children social, emotional, cognitive, and linguistic intelligent.

These movies have certain features similar. First of all, the movies are interactive. The more interactive the movies are the better. Interactive movies are movies that either encourage kids to sing, dance, exercise, say the alphabet, count, or learn new language. Parents like movies that encourage kids to use their imagination. The more hands-on activities the movies provide, the more entertain kids will be. Kids like to exploring, touch, and experiment with their surrounding. Whatever the kids see, they copy.

Therefore, movies are important to have for busy parents. A paper box is not fun to adult, but to a kid it is a fabulous toy. They can turn it into a house, castle, sandbox, or anything else they please. Another important feature that parents look for in kids movies is the education factor. There are some movies that provide excellent sensory images and sounds but the characters in the movies rarely talk in human languages. Movies that are about puppet characters may be cute, but sometime they are not very appropriate to the child’s age. The more frequently children hear new words and use them, the faster they will grow cognitively. Hearing words from stories help children to learn about cultures and family.

There are many television programs and movies out there that parents can buy for their young ones to enjoy. Many parents prefer to have a collection of children movies in their home because they don’t trust television programs. And some parents have dvd movies handy because they like their children to have a choice of whether to watch television programs or movies

DVD Movies - the greatest thing since sliced bread?

arts No Comments »

have 4 kids and am always looking for affordable entertainment, and I usually find it in a DVD Movie. For the price of taking my crowd to the movies and feeding them, I can rent or even buy several movies. We always have fun and each picks a movie and we watch them all. I just don’t miss spending a fortune at the local cinema complex.

You can even rent one, and see if it is worth buying later, still saving money compared to a family outing at the theatre. Nothing beats watching a DVD Movie at home. You can relax in your living room and enjoy yourself, and eat whatever you want to. There are so many to pick from, the old black and white classic movies, new movies of all types. And usually we pick up one we have not seen and some old tried and true favorites that we know are good.

I like action/adventure, my kids mostly like well kids movies or a good comedy. My fiancée likes the old classics she watched as a kid. What I really love about DVD’s is that often there will be extra stuff thrown in. What I really enjoy in a DVD is the extra things that are often included with a movie. Interviews with cast members are great. Extra scenes and alternative endings can sometimes be found as well. And everyone loves some good bloopers or a mini documentary on “making the movie” which you find a lot.

Another great thing is the ability to pause a movie and go answer a call of nature. And once you are settled in and watching it, you don’t have to leave a theatre and drive home. These are some of the reasons buy dvd are the greatest thing since sliced bread!

Love in the time of Cholera DVD?

arts No Comments »

Love in the time of Cholera is one of the best DVD movies that I have seen in awhile even though I found it to be a little slow in the beginning. Some people may say that it is a traditional “chick flick” but I found the characters to be intellectual and I was able to relate to them.

The storyline was a bit slow at the start but once the foundation of the story was laid, it was easy to follow and I found myself emotionally engaged. Benjamin Bratt portrayed his character with such ease, it did not seem like he was acting at all. The romantic element of a young man’s dedication to his true love is such a timeless story, and Javier Bardem does an excellent job to make the viewer’s heart melt.

Like many DVD movies, this was a story of love, dedication, and living in such a difficult time. It was set in the 19th century in a Columbian city and tells the story of a young simple man, Florentino who falls for Fermina, a shy young girl from a wealthy family. It was love at first site for Florentino but the father of Fermina wished her to be wed to someone for money rather than for love. She was taken away from the city for many years all while Florentino desperately tried to find her and he holds onto the wish of one day being together again.

Even after Florentino learns that Fermina has married a wealthy physician and started a family, he still pursued her with utmost dedication. Florentino took on work in a shipping business and was determined to make a name for himself and prove that he too could provide for Fermina. The dvd movies spans over sixty years of their lives and attests to the belief of true love.
