Staying in hotels can be a blast when you're young. You get to venture outside of the home you know all too well, and stay in a new and foreign environment. One with a different bed, different television, possibly a swimming pool and hot-tub, and definitely restaurants. I used to love going on trips when I was young. I thought I could live in hotels. Then of course we grow up. Suddenly most hotel rooms begin to look the same. Whether you're spending the night in a Hilton or Marriott doesn't really matter. You can plan on having a bed that's not your own and tossing and turning throughout the night. You can also bet on eating your meals in a typical restaurant and maybe grabbing a cocktail in the routine bar and lounge area. It's really not that exciting. But, if you really think about it, staying in a hotel crown plaza sure beats spending the night in a Motel 6.
For a short time I worked in a hotel crown plaza. This and the Marriott are the only hotels I've ever worked in. I was the bartender. Therefore I naturally heard the scoop from all the staff and all the customers. For the most part, customers seemed to be satisfied in both hotels. In all honesty, many of them appeared a bit numb. I received tons of business travelers in both of these fine hotels, and all of them had two things in common. They drank excessively and they despised hotels. It wasn't because the Marriott or hotel crown plaza was supplying bad service. It was simply because a hotel room is not home. I had countless men tell me this story. They were in sales because the pay was great, but the traveling stunk. None of them saw their families much and most looked older than they actually were. You learn a lot about people as a bartender.
So what about the sanitary factor? This is always a question on the minds of travelers. We want to know if hotels such as the Marriott and the hotel crown plaza work hard to keep the rooms and facilities sparkling clean. Well, I will say this; the house-keeping crews I knew at both fine hotels worked their butts off. They were always cleaning up messes that guests left behind. Now that is a job I would not want.
