Students Investing Money

Students Investing Money

Investing money while in college many seem like an impossible venture. Most students are faced with formidable tuition costs and hefty student loans. The notion of actually saving money during your college years may be overwhelming but it is quite possible if you follow a few simple steps.

First and foremost, college students have more resources than they think. Even if you can just put away a few dollars each week, you are still working towards creating a sound investment portfolio even during your university years. Ten or twenty dollar a week doesn’t seem like much but it adds up quickly.

Remember to pay yourself first. So many students fail to see that they should pay themselves for the work that they do. Most suggest that ten percent of a person’s income should go into retirement or into savings. When investing money while in college, you can opt to go for this lofty goal or you can opt for a smaller amount.

List your sources of income. Work Study programs are designed to help students pay tuition. However, some of this money may go above and beyond the basic tuition payments. Anything above your basic tuition costs can be rolled into a savings account, an IRA or into mutual funds.

Since most college students are young, they have the unique opportunity to go aggressive with their stocks and mutual funds. This is a daring approach and many may prefer to take a slow and steady approach to their college investments. The choice depends on your philosophy and your future outlook on your investments down the road.

Keep in mind that stocks will generally be more risky than mutual funds. You can still opt to go aggressive in the mutual fund investments but they are still a little safer than playing the stock market. Also, don’t fret about not putting enough money away in your savings venture. As long as you are contributing something you are ahead of the game.

Consider your years attending a university as a series of investments. You will be putting in time to achieve goals. Once you have earned your degree you can move on to your professional career, an IRA and many more investment opportunities.

Students are already investing their time and effort into earning a degree. Why not continue in the spirit of preparing for a bright future by investing money while in college?

college spring break

There is one fun and eventful occasion that college students across America look forward to like no other. This is when the sun finally appears after three months of cold weather and heavy clothing. Nope, it's not summer time just yet. I'm referring to the one and only college spring break. Ideas for this week of R&R fill the air as we speak. Countless students are booking hotel rooms by the beach and figuring out who they're catching a ride with. There's no doubt that this is one occasion designed for young adults.

While I've heard plenty of college spring break stories that almost sound too good to be true, I've

listened to a few doosies as well. This reminds me of how dangerous college spring break can be if not approached in the right manner. So, what I'm saying is; there are some basic rules that every college kid should know in order to survive their spring break getaway. Number one; travel in your own vehicle or with friends you truly trust. I'm talking about the friends that care about you more than their social life for a night. Although they're few and far between, they do indeed exist. Number two; never invite people you don't know back to your room. This is a terrible idea. You could possibly be getting into a mess you can't even fathom. Plus, it's dangerous! Number three; avoid getting drunk and wasted out in public. If you are the legal age to drink, then do so responsibly. You never know who might take advantage of your situation when plastered out in public. You could get raped, mugged, or even worse. I realize college spring break is supposed to be a time to cut loose, but it's up to you to be responsible and safe at the same time.

People always head for the beaches on college spring break. I suppose there's just something about the warm sand between your toes and the ocean waves crashing against the shore. It's definitely a beautiful place to kick-back and forget about the chaos of school. Just be certain you know the local laws/rules before starting and beach bonfires or beer fests. The last thing you want is for your college spring break bash to become a criminal offense. Party wisely on spring break this year.

Culinary Arts ?

Culinary Arts

After I graduated from college I was living in a very large house with a bunch of roommates. Our landlord said that he loved to rent to college students, which I thought was totally insane. Though there are many students that are responsible, there are more that are not. This house had eight bedrooms, and when you had enough roommates in there, the rent and the bills were very affordable. When we started losing people my landlord advertised at a few colleges to find new roommates. When we finally got filled back up again we have a few students from the culinary arts school that was affiliated with the school I had gone to.

The culinary arts school was something that we heard a lot about at our school because they were in the process of buying them out when I was graduating. Everyone was very excited, but it really didn’t

make much difference to me. The schools were similar in set up, though they did not offer the same learning material. My school was about art, photography, and other artist business pursuits. The culinary arts school offered, as you may have guessed, cooking, baking, and the business side of restaurants.

I soon found out that there was a huge plus to living with students from the culinary arts school. They had a lot of cooking to do, and many times they had to do it at home. There were many times when they had to cook a meal and get opinions, and we were always the guinea pigs. I don’t know much about culinary arts, but I do know what good food tastes like. Our three roommates all did amazing jobs in the kitchen, and it also helped cut down on my grocery bill.

Despite the good food, there was something a little off about the culinary arts students we lived with. Perhaps it was being around food so much, I don’t know, but they all became a little wacky. They were completely normal when they moved in, but somewhere along the line they all wigged out a bit. Perhaps the world of culinary arts is a little more cut throat than I thought it was. What was even worse was that they carried around a large array of very sharp and very large knives. I know they wouldn’t have done anything, but you never know what someone is thinking. Moving out a few months later was a huge relief.
